San Antonio Golf Lifestyle To Be Showcased During International Event With Lorena Ochoa
The premier golf and leisure destination in Texas, San Antonio is proud to announce the inaugural Las Americas Golf Tournament, featuring Hall of Fame golf legend Lorena Ochoa of Mexico, at the historic Westin La Cantera Resort, Sept. 17-21, 2010.
Under the direction of the San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau (SACVB), Las Americas Golf Tournament is expected to attract business leaders from both the United States and Mexico, who will participate in the tournament to support Ochoa's Foundation, "Ayudar es Posible" ("To Help Is Possible").
The recently retired Ochoa, the former No. 1 women's player in the world, provides Las Americas Golf Tournament with a superstar personality to launch the event, particularly attractive to potential participants from Latin America. A national treasure in Mexico, Ochoa is to participate in the golf tournament, as well as the awards gala and fashion show. The celebration of Las Americans Golf Tournament coincides with the Bicentennial of the Independence of Mexico (1810) and the Centennial of the Mexican Revolution (1910).
Other activities during Las Americas Golf Tournament include optional off-site golf excursions and family activities, featuring the famed River Walk and historic Alamo, as well as shopping, theme parks, museums - all part of the unique San Antonio experience that has earned honors from U.S. World News & Report as the nation's Second-Best City For Family Vacations.
Las Americas event, with International Bank of Commerce (IBC Bank) serving as title sponsor for 2010, also presents an opportunity to enhance business relationships between the U.S., Mexico and Latin America.
"We're targeting golfers in Latin America, who set the trends, and business leaders in Mexico and Latin America, who can forge new opportunities in this market," said Scott White, SACVB Executive Director. "San Antonio's quality of life, leisure activities and strong economy attract travelers and business investments from our Latin American neighbors. With the Las Americas Golf Tournament we're now positioning our city as the preferred golf destination for Latin American travelers."
Named by ForbesTraveler.com as one of America's Top 10 Golf Cities, San Antonio continues to gain attention for its expanding collection of quality resort courses and championship venues. Among them is the luxurious Westin La Cantera Resort, longtime home of the Texas Open and now host of Las Americas. Other courses on the San Antonio "Not To Miss List" include historic Brackenridge Park, The Quarry, Hyatt Hill Country, Canyon Springs, Pecan Valley Golf Club and the new TPC San Antonio with two courses that opened in January 2010.
