What Countries Should You Visit If You Are a Golf Fan?
By Matt Seban
Golf is a sport enjoyed all around the world. However, there are certain countries that have embraced the game much more so than others. In this article, we would like to take a look at a few countries where golf gets quite a lot of respect, and are great tourist destinations for fans of the game.
Scotland
Many might assume that Scotland is the country where golf is the most popular. Especially if one takes into consideration the fact that many believe that the game's origins can be traced to the Scottish Highlands. However, surprisingly, the sport is not nearly as popular in Scotland as it is in some of the other countries featured on this list.
However, that does not mean that the Scottish fall behind when it comes to gorgeous courses and fabulous golf clubs that one can join. Apart from the spectacular scenery, the ancient castles and the gothic architecture, golf fans traveling to Scotland should absolutely not miss some of the best golf courses that Europe has to offer.
England
For the uninitiated, England is one of the countries where online betting is most popular. We mention this because golf is one of the most popular sports in the betting world, especially on online bookmakers such as www.novibet.ie. But, the love that the English have for golf goes far beyond betting.
England has some of the most beautiful, most popular and most widely attended golf courses in Europe. On top of that, a plethora of great golfers have come from England, many of whom have attained popularity that rivals the greats. England is also home to some of the biggest and most prestigious golf tournaments in the world, so it is certainly a must-visit place for anyone planning a golf vacation.
Ireland
When speaking about the countries where golf is most popular, Ireland always come up. It is, after all, the country where the sport is most beloved. It isn't just that golf is hugely enjoyed in the country by people of all stripes, but also that Ireland has produced some of the best and most popular golfers in the world. People like Rory McIlroy, who remains one of the best players active today, Fred Daly, Darren Clarke and Padraig Harrington.
The natural beauties of Ireland also lend themselves perfectly to beautiful golf courses. Ireland is home to some of the most spectacular and extraordinary golf courses in Europe, and maybe even the world. For any fan of golf, a visit of Ireland should be their top priority.
The United States of America
Last but not least, citizens of the United States of America are among the biggest fans of golf in the world. The States have also produced some of the most popular and accomplished players in the game's history. Among the most popular is Tiger Woods, whose popularity extends far beyond the game itself.
On top of that, the country is also home to some of the biggest golf tournaments, such as the U.S. Open, which is among the most prestigious events in the world of the sport. The US also has uncountable golf courses, each greater and more splendid than the other.

About: Matt Seban
Matt Seban is a turf aficionado, golf travel junkie, and self-proclaimed fairway repair specialist. By day, he runs a successful landscaping business, making the world greener one yard at a time. By night (or whenever he can sneak away), he moonlights as a golf travel writer, covering course openings, redesigns, and turf management techniques with the enthusiasm of a man who truly believes grass is his spirit animal.
With over 20 years of turf management experience—specializing in athletic field turf—Matt has a deep appreciation for the delicate balance of maintaining perfect playing surfaces. He’s been known to roam fairways armed with a bottle of seed and sand, patching divots like a wandering golf course doctor. Rumor has it, every time he takes a divot, a little piece of his soul dies.
Matt has played golf in more than 30 states and teed it up on over half of America’s Top 100 Public Courses. He also has a deep appreciation for golf course architecture, especially from the Golden Age of design in the 1920s. When he’s not repairing divots or admiring strategic bunker placements, you might find him competing in hickory golf tournaments, dressed in period attire and wielding century-old clubs with a surprising amount of skill.
Whether he's diving into the nuances of classic course design or debating the best strains of bentgrass, Matt brings a unique perspective to golf travel writing—one that’s equal parts historian, turf geek, and weekend warrior. Follow along as he shares his insights, adventures, and (hopefully) some perfectly manicured fairways.
