Dallas - Fort Worth Golf Guide
Even Americans who are too young to remember where they were that fateful day in November 1963 when they heard that President John F. Kennedy had been shot have heard of the infamous "grassy knoll" in Dallas' Dealey Plaza. There is much more to learn, however, about November 22 that year than the history books or the movie "JFK" reveal. A visit to the Sixth Floor Museum, in what used to be called the Texas School Book Depository, however, will enlighten visitors in numerous ways. Travelers who study the charts and grafts, examine the artifacts and the nearly 400 photos and watch the 45 minutes of documentary films in the museum may not turn into conspiracy theorists, but they will certainly have ample evidence with which to defend their opinions.
Of course, Dallas is a thriving metropolis that deserves to be known for more than a tragic event that took place 50 years ago. The arts district, for example, includes the Dallas Museum of Art, which houses more than 23,000 works; the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center is an I.M. Pei-designed building that features unsurpassed acoustics; and the Nasher Sculpture Center features more than 300 sculptures.
Before travelers set out for any of the numerous worthwhile courses in the area, they should visit the West End Historic District, a series of restored brick warehouses filled with more than 80 shops and 40 restaurants.
It is unusual to be able to play a public course designed by A.W. Tillinghast, yet visitors to Dallas can do just that by teeing it up at Cedar Crest Park Golf Course.
