San Antonio Golf Guide

Every kid who attended schools in America or grew up watching westerns has heard the phrase, "Remember the Alamo." But although they may remember the broad strokes of what occurred at Mission San Antonio de Valero on March 6, 1836, they will more fully understand the events that took place at "The Alamo" by visiting this San Antonio historic site, the most popular tourist attraction in the great state of Texas.

And yet as historically significant and moving as the Alamo is, San Antonio today is nearly as well known for its River Walk. Straddling the San Antonio River and officially called Paseo del Rio, River Walk is a vibrant collection of shops, restaurants, museums and hotels that tourists flock to in droves. Mariachis serenading visitors and water taxis that bisect the revelry on either side of the river add to the novel atmosphere.

A host of theme parks, highlighted by Six Flags Fiesta Texas and SeaWorld San Antonio, make this Texas city a prime family-vacation destination.

Yet once these worthwhile-but-tangential distractions are out of the way, golfers can do what they do: Play as many great courses as time, income and stamina will allow. With approximately 50 courses in the greater San Antonio region, golfers should have no trouble matching courses to their games.

La Cantera Resort, TPC San Antonio (AT&T Oaks and AT&T Canyons) the Quarry and Brackenridge Park, designed by A.W. Tillinghast, are the big guns in town. And although summers can be hot, golf in San Antonio is a year-round sport.
